Starting a Conversation With a Brand You Love

lake-champlain-chocolatesBrands may seem like an impenetrable fortress, but the truth is they want to start conversations with people just like you.

Here’s Why…

People Add Value Through Word of Mouth

Businesses spend millions of dollars on advertising each year but it’s incredibly difficult to track the effectiveness of their expenditures.

Starting ‘Cafe Shaped Conversations’, as Chris Brogan likes to call them, provide a brand something they cherish: trustworthiness.

Think about the conversations you have with friends and family.

I’ve bought cars, computers, and more than I care to remember based on trusted recommendations from people I trust, and I bet you have too.

A Brand I Love and Want to Share

One of the brands I hold particular affinity towards is Lake Champlain Chocolates.

Let me be completely up-front about this: Lake Champlain Chocolates does not pay me to love their product.

I’ve been eating their truffles and candy since I discovered them at Whole Foods a few years back.

Now that I live in Vermont, and work down the road from them, I feel as though I’ve bonded with the company.

It’s a local business that was started by a Vermonter who wanted to provide better chocolate to his restaurant patrons, and the business grew from there. Hell of a story.

That’s the reason I decided to sponsor a contest (on my own) for people who use the social blogging website Twitter to win a free sample of their Valentine’s Day chocolates.

I love the product that much.

Giving things away is a wonderful way to bring people into the fold who I can start conversations with.

Imprinting your seal of approval on a brand by recommending it to friends carries a lot of weight (just be careful to use it wisely).

What brands do you love that you could be an advocate for…and why does it matter to you?
