Everyone is the CEO of their Own Brand Identity
Like it or not – and I think you should like it – we are all the CEO’s of our own brand identity.
That means we can exert control over the way we are perceived in the world to a large degree.
To make this happen however we need to realize who is saying what about us.
Let’s assume you have a profile on Facebook, MySpace, or use Twitter.
Social Media Communicates Personalized Brand Messages
Do you ever search for your name on Google to see what people are writing?
There’s a cool way for you to find out who is writing about you, your business, or you career in real time.
It’s called Twitter Search.
You can search for specific terms, like ‘MacWorld Live Blog’ and find the most recent updates.
Better still you can search your own name. Twitter searches will show you who is saying what – and when they say it – about you.
The Reason You Should Care About Your Brand
Finding information about yourself depends on some participation from you, and it doesn’t have to be an ego trip (well, not completely anyways).
If someone is dragging your name through the mud, it’s a good idea to figure out why they have an axe to grind.
Even more important is the difference you can make in the community.
Comcast Cares is on Twitter. What if your business was? How important is it for you to keep customers happy, and turn them into raving fans, during a slow economy?
Tools like Twitter Search are just one means to achieving goals like customer satisfaction and positive press.
You can search Google and the other major search engines, start pinging friends on social media sites like Facebook, even create a YouTube Channel like I did.
My goal for sharing this information is to get you caring about yourself, your brand image, and ways we can help make the online universe a friendlier/more constructive place in 2009.
