An Immaculate Work Ethic

Michigan State went 9-3 this season thanks in large part to running back Javon Ringer. He slices through defenses in 100+ yard performances and currently leads the nation in rushing touchdowns.

But all Ringer wants to do is talk about a block he made for quarterback Brian Hoyer in a 37-20 victory over Northwestern this past weekend:

Whenever I can make a block for Hoyer, I’m excited about that.

Putting the Team First

Really? A college all-star and potential Heisman Trophy candidate with a work ethic and respect for his teammates? Javon Ringer represents the good in college sports today, a hard working offensive powerhouse who likes to share credit.

After a particularly strong performance Javon pulled his entire offensive line on-stage with him to answer questions from the press. He said he wanted everyone to know who was responsible for watching his back and making those electrified rushes possible in the first place.

Here’s what Ringer’s high school coach Jim Place had to say:

In practice he never stopped until you blew the whistle. There were times he’d keep running, going across the parking lot and into a neighborhood, and one of the kids would say, ‘Coach, you forgot to blow the whistle. You have to go get Javon.’

Bringing the Lesson Home

You might not be gifted in the realm of athletics, but an all-star like Ringer proves that determination and a strong work ethic pay off.

Ringer is an Ohio native who dreamed of attending OSU, but it didn’t pan out. He kept his head down and worked to become the most dangerous on-field threat for Michigan State.
